In every town and village, there are several
historical sights, works of art and architectural works. Thanks to its
uniqueness, a landmark can become not only a regional landmark, but also the symbol
for local people who find it exceptional.
There is one such example in Považská Bystrica.
It is the sundial whose designer is the high school teacher Juraj Bardy, and it
was constructed by Eduard
Škorpík in 1970. Since
that time, the sundial has been the integral part of Park mládeže (Youth Park).
Despite its high-quality construction and regular
maintenance, the weather with its external effects resulted in more and more visible
damage. Also the mayor of Považská Bystrica, Karol Janas expressed the need for
extensive restoration and he informed the public that “The sundial is our local
landmark. It would be a terrible pity if it disappeared from the park. We are
negotiating its restoration with companies. For a while the sundial will be
dismantled so we can renovate it. Then, we will put it back.” To read the whole

The employees of the KOVAL SYSTEMS, a. s., are
honored that we were in charge of restoration of the important symbol of Považská
Bystrica. Here are the photographs of the sundial before restoration and after the
individual stages of restoration. There are also photographs of the sundial
returned to its original place.
